CCTV and Facebook assist in tracking down puppy thief

The City of Belmont has an extensive CCTV program and currently has access to over 280 cameras.

A female American Staffy was stolen from the Belmont Pet Store on Monday, 5 May 2014. A male entered the store and asked to hold the puppy. When he was handed the puppy he ran from the store and got into a dark blue Holden Astra which was waiting in the City of Belmont Civic Centre car park which then drove off.

Belmont Police placed images of the offender, the vehicle and similar looking puppies on the Crime Stoppers Facebook page. Within 2 hours they received information regarding the theft which led to the puppy being found safe and a male was arrested and charged with the offence.
